LL Cool J has joined the “SWAT” team, lining up with Samuel L. Jackson, Colin Farrell and Michelle Rodriguez in the Clark Johnson-directed Columbia actioner.
The actor, who is being billed in his films by his real name, James Todd Smith, becomes a key member of a SWAT team assigned to transport an international criminal who’s offered $100 million to anyone who can spring him. Based on the classic TV series, “SWAT” is being produced by Neal Moritz, Dan Halsted and Chris Lee.
The rapper/actor has also committed to a gentler role, as he’ll lend his voice to the feature “Rugrats Meet the Wild Thornberrys,” the Klasky/Csupo pic for Paramount and Nickelodeon. LL Cool J will voice Piki, a handmade doll that blurts out philosophical hip-hop phrases when its belly is pushed. Pic’s cast includes Tim Curry, Bruce Willis and Flea. Film will be released in May 2003.
The WMA-repped LL Cool J has two films in the can. He stars opposite Gabrielle Union in the Focus pic “Deliver Us From Eva,” and opposite Val Kilmer and Christian Slater in the Renny Harlin-directed Dimension drama “Mindhunters.”
