Chachere upped at indie fest

Director will oversee year-round activities

Slamdance has named Gianna Chachere as festival director, replacing co-directors Brent Clackson and Kristy Byrd.

Chachere will oversee Slamdance’s year-round activities, which include an annual screenplay competition, “On the Road” screenings, and Slamdance’s expansion in Los Angeles and New York.

Chachere, previously the director of Slamdance’s screenplay competition, now will be responsible for sponsorship development, programming, marketing and the festival’s artistic direction.

Philosophy grad

Chachere graduated from Simmons College in Boston with a philosophy degree and spent seven years as a professional fundraiser at the New School and New York University, as well as other film-related institutions.

Slamdance is preparing its first Filmmakers’ Bootcamp, to be held in Los Angeles Oct. 11-13.

The submission deadline for the 2003 edition of the Slamdance Film Festival is Oct. 11.
