Art guild to honor Brenner

Features vet to receive lifetime achievement kudos

The Art Directors Guild has tapped veteran production designer Albert Brenner, a five-time Oscar nominee, to receive its lifetime achievement award.

Kudos will be presented Feb. 22 at the seventh annual Art Directors Guild Awards at the BevHilton. Previous lifetime achievement winners are Ken Adam, Robert Boyle, Henry Bumstead, Harold Michelson, Jan Scott and Richard Sylbert.

Brenner, who has been production designer or art director on 57 features, received Academy Award noms for “Beaches,” “2010,” “California Suite,” “The Turning Point” and “The Sunshine Boys.”

Other credits include “The Goodbye Girl,” “Pretty Woman,” “Bullitt,” “Silent Movie,” “Monte Walsh,” “Backdraft,” “The Presidio,” “Fail-Safe,” “Dear God” and “Mr. Saturday Night.”

The Brooklyn native worked in scenic design for the stage, on live TV shows for CBS and ABC and on “Car 54, Where Are You?” and “The Phil Silvers Show.”

Brenner first worked in features as an assistant to Sylbert and worked with him on “The Pawnbroker.”
