Highlighting seven decades of Oscar-winning animated films, the Academy’s Standards Screening Series will present 12 animated short-film honorees at 8 p.m. Aug. 16 in the Acad’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater.
The films showcase various styles of animation. “The Ugly Duckling” (1939) is traditional hand-drawn cel animation, while “The Wrong Trousers” (1993), from the “Wallace and Gromit” series, is an example of claymation. Computer animation technology is represented by Pixar’s 1997 short “Geri’s Game.”
Screenings are in conjunction with the Acad’s gallery exhibition “Oscars in Animation,” on display in the grand lobby and fourth-floor galleries from Thursday through Oct. 6. The exhibition extends its hours Aug. 16 so screening auds may view the display either before or after the films.
Tickets may be purchased by mail, in person at the Academy beginning Aug. 1, or the night of the screening.
