‘Stu 2’ shows teeth, ‘Men’ manly o’seas

Brit summer break should bode well for kid pic

While Sony’s mouse didn’t roar overseas, “Stuart Little 2” delivered satisfying results in its first offshore markets over the weekend. Meanwhile, “Men in Black II” flexed its muscles as it bowed in top spot in 11 territories.

The “Little” sequel fetched an estimated $2.2 million on 610 prints in the U.K., 7% up on the original, but trailing the buoyant soph session of “Scooby-Doo” and the third of “Minority Report.”

Columbia TriStar senior exec VP Mark Zucker expects that with long summer school vacation starting in Blighty, pic should hold well.

In Japan, the critter nibbled roughly $1.1 million on 247, about 80% of its predecessor, which went on to earn a tasty $17.7 million there — a tall order for this edition. In Holland, the family pic devoured $200,000 on 111, 95% of the first “Stuart.”

‘MIB 2’ bows wide

After its record-busting debut in Japan, “Star Wars: Episode II — Attack of the Clones” fell by an acceptable 29%, minting $5.9 million.

“MIB 2” captured an estimated $11.2 million on a super-wide 1,166 screens in Germany (the sixth biggest preem ever there), $1.2 million on 123 in Austria, $1.3 million on 55 in Hong Kong, $805,000 on 43 in Singapore and $515,000 on 50 in the Philippines. Similarly strong were its $350,000 entry on 32 in Hungary and Malaysia’s $410,000 on 45. All told, the Will Smith/Tommy Lee Jones starrer raked in $26 million from 4,186 engagements in 24 markets, hoisting cume to $70 million, according to Sony’s Sunday estimate.

‘Scooby’ collars France

“Scooby-Doo” reigned in Spain, picking up roughly $1.1 million on 276, and saw nifty bows in Belgium ($337,000 on 61, with sneaks) and Switzerland ($167,000 on 22).

Warner Bros.’ caper collared $3.7 million on 474 in the U.K. (abating by a reasonable 26%) to bring its 10-day tally to a socko $14.4 million. In its second lap in France, “Scooby” did $1.7 million (still No. 1, per WB’s projection), scoring a sturdy $5.7 million in 12 days.

“Minority Report” dipped by a modest 18% in Blighty to $2.9 million, elevating the local cume to a stellar $20.4 million.

WB’s “Eight Legged Freaks” conquered Thailand, mustering $259,000 on 100, 71% up on “Scream 2.”

“Spider-Man’s” cume vaulted to $360 million on the back of a $6.2 million frame on about 4,000 prints.
