Blockbusters drive up U.K. pic tix

World Brief

Cinema admissions continued to roar ahead in the U.K., with a 30% rise in June compared with the same frame last year.

The month’s 12.2 million ticket sales brought the tally for the first half of the year to 87.7 million, up 25% over 2001. In-crease was driven by Hollywood blockbusters, such as “Spider-Man” and “Star Wars: Episode II — Attack of the Clones.”

The June rise is all the more impressive, as it coincided with soccer’s World Cup, which normally takes a bite out of the box office.
