Nicole Kidman and Ang Lee will serve as honorary co-chairs of the 2002 IFP/West Independent Spirit Awards.
Additionally, both Kidman and Lee are on board to present at the March 23 kudocast, as are thesps Benjamin Bratt, Ellen Burstyn, Alan Cumming, Adam Goldberg, Rachel Griffiths, Ethan Hawke, Sir Ben Kingsley, John Leguizamo, Sir Ian McKellen and Naomi Watts, among others.
John Waters will act as Master of Ceremonies.
The ISA Awards are hosted annually on the Saturday before the Oscars. Nods are given in honor of films and filmmakers who embody independence and challenge the status quo.
“We are honored to have Nicole and Ang serve as co-chairs of this year’s Independent Spirit Awards,” said IFP executive director Dawn Hudson. “Their willingness to take risks in their work is inspiring and personifies the independent spirit.”
Lee, a 2001 ISA winner, for director (“Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon”), is currently helming “The Hulk.” Kidman has wrapped Lars Von Trier’s “Dogville,” and will next lense “The Human Stain” opposite Anthony Hopkins.
IFP/West, Southern Calif’s largest non-profit org for independent filmmakers, is comprised of 5,600 active members.
The ISAs will air live on the Independent Film Channel beginning at 5p.m. EST. An encore presentation will be broadcast on IFC’s sister network Bravo at 10 p.m. EST.
