There are stars and then there are stars. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences welcomed 108 nominees at its 21st annual luncheon Monday at the BevHilton, and each garnered hefty applause as his name was read.
Also in attendance were three recipients of this year’s honorary Oscars: Edmund DiGiulio, Arthur Hiller and Sidney Poitier. And the actor-director earned something unprecedented at an Oscar lunch: a standing ovation.
AMPAS prexy Frank Pierson made welcoming remarks and Oscarcast producer Laura Ziskin offered tips for the contenders and gave them each a present: a silver 45-second hour-glass, so they can time a short acceptance speech.
