Cynopsis, a daily email briefing of trade news, started six years ago as an interoffice trivia question sent to a small group of on-staff researchers. Passed along by email, it grew from a single question each day to a general morning summary of the television industry. Cynthia Turner’s cheery and literally colorful writing is a quick read of nuts-and-bolts news culled from the trades (e.g. Variety) combined with job listings, overnight ratings and what’ll be on tonight.
In 2000, Cynopsis started taking ads, around the same time Turner ankled her job as vice president of programming at Nick at Nite’s TV Land. In June 2002, a second publication about children’s entertainment (films, TV, games, books, licensing and merchandising) was launched.
The Web site is mostly an online place holder; the real meat arrives in your email box weekdays at an ungodly hour.
