LucasArts is releasing a squadron of vidgames based partly on the newest “Star Wars” installment, feeding detail-hungry franchise fans more info about the movie in the weeks before its May release.
The Sony PlayStation 2 version of “Star Wars Jedi Starfighter” has just hit store shelves, to be followed in May with a version for Microsoft’s Xbox. As the game’s own packaging proclaims, it provides a “first look at characters, story connections, craft, a key location and clues to film events.” The game’s cover art includes pictures of “Star Wars Episode 2: Attack of the Clones” stars Samuel L. Jackson and Christopher Lee.
LucasArts also announced that “Star Wars Bounty Hunter,” an actioner following mercenary Jango Fett, bows this fall for PS2 and Nintendo’s GameCube. Gameplay occurs in the time between Episodes 1 and 2 of the movies. Jango Fett is an important figure in Episode 2 and father of Boba Fett, a minor but popular character from the original three films. In making the game, LucasArts officials said they’ll collaborate for the first time with fellow Lucas-owned subsids Industrial Light & Magic and Skywalker Sound, which respectively will contribute cinematics and sound effects.
