Mobile going extreme with Activision

Cyberbiz Brief

Vidgame maker Activision said it has cut a deal with wireless content publisher Jamdat Mobile to jointly publish versions of Activision extreme-sports titles for cell phones and other handheld mobile devices. Titles from Activision’s O2 sports line, such as the bestselling “Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater,” would be converted to run on wireless devices with color screens that use one of two software platforms, Qualcomm’s Brew and Sun Microsystems J2ME. The games would be converted to Brew and J2ME using Jamdat’s suite of content-building software. Los Angeles-based Jamdat was founded by former Activision execs with funding from Qualcomm, Sun and chipmaker Intel.
