His profile is more Indiana farmer than Indiana Jones, but vidgame maker Nintendo says its star character, Mario, has eclipsed Hollywood’s finest when it comes to sales muscle.
In the 21 years since the red-panted plumber debuted in the “Donkey Kong” arcade game, Nintendo has sold more than 158 million Mario games, generating $7 billion in revenue.
The company calculates that total puts the portly pipe cleaner ahead of even Harrison Ford, whose films have generated $5.6 billion.
The mustachioed monkey fighter’s B.O. lead should only widen this year.
Ford’s latest, “K-19: The Widowmaker,” is limping into port, while “Super Mario Sunshine,” which debuted Aug. 26, has been getting reviews such as Game Spot’s, which called it “pure videogame crack.”
