Online movie provider CinemaNow announced it has created a global consortium of Web sites tied to entertainment and telecom firms that can provide localized video-on-demand and subscription video-on-demand services worldwide.
The system will use CinemaNow’s PatchBay technology to centralize distribution and security throughout the network. Online VOD system is the first to have reach in specified territories in Asia and Europe.
The network includes British Telecom, U.K. portal Freeserve, GOL Philippines, NextGentTel and TV2 Interaktv, both in Norway, and Purocine in Latin America; relationships with Cunghwa Telecom in Taiwan and Walker Asia in Singapore were announced previously.
CinemaNow is one of the oldest of the online movie-on-demand services. The business has seen a series of announcements in recent weeks. Movielink, the online VOD service backed by five Hollywood studios, launched last month, and Starz Encore this week announced a deal to deliver movies through RealNet-works’ RealOne Superpass subscription service beginning next summer.
