Amazon.com’s Brangien Davis interviews her father Bruce Davis, the executive director of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science, about the origin of the Oscar statue. Among the findings: It remained unchanged from the first design until 1998, when the statue was given a chin tuck. And 6-8 statues were reported seriously damaged during the 1991 Northridge earthquake. Haven’t these famous acheivers heard of crazy glue? I wouldn’t leave my Oscar sitting loose on a high shelf.
