Law firms Katten Muchin Zavis and Rosenman & Colin will merge. The combined firm will have more than 600 lawyers and a significant nationwide entertainment and media practice.
The new firm will have approximately 50 entertainment lawyers, primarily in Los Angeles and New York. They will handle both transactional and litigation matters for music, film and television clients as well as publishing companies, sports teams and advertising companies.
In the television arena, clients include Paramount Intl., Showtime, Studios USA, Playboy and several creator-producers of animated shows including “Hey, Arnold,” “SpongeBob Squarepants” and “The Simpsons.” Susan Grode, who will head the entertainment practice in L.A., is the longtime representative of “Simpsons” creator Matt Groening.
On the film side, representation ranges from the major studios to independent producers, where the firm handles all legal aspects of production, financing and distribution. Litigation clients include the Disney Co. and Miramax.
The firm’s music clients include Sony Music, EMI and BMG.
