BERLIN — Friedrich-Carl Wachs, former Studio Babelsberg topper and chief exec of German production association Producers AG, is joining Senator Entertainment’s board as chief operating officer and deputy chairman.
Wachs will oversee development, communication, investor relations and personnel when he starts his job April 1. The Berlin-based producer-distrib said Wachs’ appointment was part of the expansion of its domestic and international business.
“Wachs can give me the freedom I need to focus on German and international film production,” Senator chairman Hanno Huth said Monday.
“Hanno has been doing the work of three people; now he’ll be doing the work of two people,” Wachs told Daily Variety. “Basically, I’ll be covering his back. He made an offer I could not refuse.” Wachs confirmed that he would leave his post at PAG.
PAG chief financial officer Dietmar Thiele will take the top job at the group in April. Company, which buys majority stakes in indie film and TV outfits while bringing the owners on board as new shareholders in the parent group, will announce restructuring later this week.
Wachs got his start in 1990 at Ufa Film & Fernseh in Hamburg, where he was in charge of electronic media. In 1997 he took the reins at Studio Babelsberg, ankling the post in 2000. Later that year he became chief exec at PAG.
