Runner robbed

Letter to the Editor

To the Editor:

Nowhere in Scott Foundas’ article in the Special Report “The Crix’ Picks” (Daily Variety, Dec. 12) could be found even one mention of the movie that is, according to the extremely comprehensive web source http://www.metacritic.com, the single best reviewed, non-animated film of the past three years: Zacharias Kunuk’s “The Fast Runner (Atanarjuat).”

Quite an oversight for a 2002 release that A.O. Scott in the New York Times termed “a classic” and about which J. Hoberman in the Village Voice suggested “it could herald a rebirth of cinema.”

Jeff Lipsky

(The author, co-founded Lot 47 Films, which distributed “The Fast Runner.”)
