Rising losses plague Helkon

Main problem special one-time writeoffs of nearly $12 mil

MUNICH — Losses at German film group Helkon Media more than doubled to $18.6 million, despite a 48% revenue hike to $143 million, in the first nine months of its business year.

Main factors behind the drastic drop in profits were special one-time writeoffs of nearly $12 million, relating to Helkon’s film library and restructuring measures, plus the less-than-stellar results of “Rollerball,” which did far worse at the box office than expected.

Helkon has seen its stock price — currently at 30¢ — steadily sink in recent months.
