Letter to the editor

To the Editor:

It is somewhat disturbing to see a full-page ad targeted at the members of the Writers Guild (Daily Variety, Oct 29) which is credited to no fewer than 16 writers, and yet contains one blatant spelling error (“Credits Manuel”) and one highly questionable usage of the English language, “unexceptionable.” The desired word was probably “unexceptional.”

There are surely guilds in Hollywood and elsewhere where such errors would be at least understandable if not forgivable. But shouldn’t the members of a Writers Guild be versed in the tools of their trade, in this case the American Language?
