Universal senior VP of production Leonard Kornberg is ankling to pursue other interests.
Kornberg played a key role in developing and supervising the “Mummy” franchise, including upcoming spinoff “The Scorpion King.” He recently supervised Jonathan Demme “Charade” remake “The Truth About Charlie,” set for release later this year, and developed “Intolerable Cruelty,” which begins production this spring, among other features.
Kornberg joined U in 1987 as a story analyst after working as a story analyst at Fox and teaching film studies at CSU San Francisco. He was named director of development in 1989 and promoted to production VP in 1994 and senior VP in 1996.
Also at U, Kornberg has worked on such pics as “The River Wild,” starring Meryl Streep; “The Frighteners,” directed by Peter Jackson with Robert Zemeckis exec producing; and “October Sky,” directed by Joe Johnston.
For the past three years, Kornberg has taught at USC Graduate Film School’s Peter Stark Program, and he is a member of the Artists for Amnesty advisory board.
