One of Leo Kirch’s top lieutenants, Jan Mojto, is ankling the troubled Teutonic conglom to set up his own production company.
The programming chief and deputy chairman of KirchMedia apparently had been mulling an exit even before the Kirch Group’s financial problems snowballed late last year.
The new outfit will be called Eos Entertainment and will pitch projects to Kirch Media’s Beta Film unit as well as to outside parties.
Mojto is setting up the company with Klaus Zimmermann and Eric Welbers, fellow Kirch hands who were in charge of international film production and acquisitions at the Munich-based Kirch Group.
KirchMedia likely will shutter most of its own production facilities following Mojto’s exit.
