Elections for reps should go forward

HOLLYWOOD — The Intl. Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees has won representation rights for freelance sports broadcast technicians employed by Fox Sports New York.

Election results were 75 in favor of the IA, 11 in favor of the Intl. Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and four for no representation.

The petition for representation was originally filed in May 2001, with the IBEW claiming it had a binding contract covering the same group of workers and alleging that IATSE was raiding its jurisdiction.

The IA noted, however, that an impartial AFL-CIO umpire ruled that Fox Sports New York is the “genuine employer” and the elections for representation should go forward.
