Col extends pay TV deal

Sogecable renews for five more years

MADRID — Columbia TriStar Intl. Television has renewed its output deal with Spanish pay TV leader Sogecable for an additional five years.

As with its original agreement from September 1997, Sogecable will maintain exclusive first and second window pay TV rights on the latest Col TriStar movies for its high-flying premium channel Canal Plus Espana and rerun feed Cinemania.

Sogecable has also licensed non-exclusive pay-per-view rights to recent Col pics including “American Sweethearts” and “Black Hawk Down.” These will air on Sogecable digital TV platform Canal Satelite Digital.

CSD will also continue to carry CTSI action web AXN. The renewed deal kicks in as of January.

Col deal highlights continuing U.S. studio confidence in Sogecable, one of Europe’s best-performing feevee operators.

Sogecable went into the black last year, posting a 2.8 million euro ($2.4 million) net profit for 2001.
