VH1 has tapped Laura Nelson senior vice prexy of communications. Nelson joins the music net from Oxygen Media, where she was a communications veep.
In her new role, Nelson will oversee all communications for the channel, including offshoots VH1 Classic and VH1.com. She’ll be based in New York and report to Christina Norman, the channel’s general manager.
“Laura has had such a stellar career in public relations and is well respected by the media,” Norman said. “Her experience in launching some of cable television’s most memorable series will be invaluable as we begin to roll out our new programming later this year.”
At Oxygen, Nelson built the media relations department and was responsible for all media relations and corporate communications during the net’s evolution. Before that, she was a VP at Comedy Central, where she was involved in strategic publicity efforts as well as the launches of “South Park,” “Absolutely Fabulous” and “The Daily Show.”
Nelson also has held positions at People magazine and at praiseries Dan Klores Associates and Hill & Knowlton.
