Herbert Kloiber’s Tele Munchen Group has named Thomas Augsberger as its exclusive U.S. representative.
He also may soon replace Kloiber as a director on the board of Lions Gate Entertainment, in which TMG owns a substantial stake.
Augsberger will be responsible for overseeing TMG’s relationships with American distributors and producers.
TMG has had output deals with MGM, worked as sales agent for CBS and ABC, and co-financed split rights deals with Gary Levinsohn’s Mutual Film Co.
The German shingle also co-produced and co-financed “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider” with Paramount, Mutual and partners Toho-Towa and the BBC.
Augsberger will continue to develop film and television projects as an independent producer via his investment, production and consulting banner Eden Rock Media.
He remains on the board of Key Entertainment, where he has spent the past six years with partner Matthias Emcke, as well as MediaSmart, a fund that seeks to invest up to $50 million in Australian features and entertainment-related businesses.
Augsberger’s exec producer credits include “Till Human Voices Wake Us,” “Judas Kiss” and “Life During Wartime” as well as the upcoming “Love and a Bullet” and “Slap Her, She’s French.”
Before moving to Los Angeles and joining Key in 1996, Augsberger was an attorney in Germany.
