TORONTO — A complaint brought against Imax two years ago by Euromax, a trade association of European large-format theaters, was dismissed Wednesday by the European Commission.
Euromax had alleged that Imax was abusing its dominant position in the European large-format theater market by charging excessive rent for projection systems, and by violating competish rules in bundling maintenance services to the leasing of its projection equipment.
“We are gratified by the EC’s decision to dismiss this complaint,” said Imax co-CEOs Rich Gelfond and Brad Wechsler in a statement. “This is an important victory for Imax, as Europe is a very critical market, where we have experienced significant growth over the last 10 years and expect to continue to open up new theaters for many years to come.”
Some Euromax members are Imax theater owners.
