Vicuna Plural’s new prexy

Move comes after New York Times TV deal

MADRID — Spanish industry vet Jose Vicuna has been tapped president of film and TV production company Plural Entertainment, owned by Spanish media giant Prisa.

The appointment of one of Spain’s best-known film execs comes as Plural inked a co-production accord with the New York Times TV. The partners will develop TV projects for distribution worldwide, beginning with a docu on Cuba.

Plural has also teamed with Spanish publishing house Santillana, a Prisa subsid, for two animation series, “Entre Amigos” and “Cocorolas.”

With offices in New York and Madrid, Plural reps a pioneering Spanish move to produce film and TV projects for an increasingly upscale Spanish-speaking market in the U.S. and Latin America.

Vicuna is the former longtime prexy of Warner Espanola, which distribbed WB pics in Spain.

Luis Fernandez, the director of news and current affairs at broadcaster Tele 5, has been named Plural’s general manager.
