U.K.’s Channel 4 sees advertising sales soar

Cult terrestrial station Channel 4 has posted record sales of £716 million ($1 billion) for 2000, up 12%. Profits were down 34% to $31 million due to new business investment.

Ad sales grew 8% to $934 million, bucking the downward trend that has hit ITV, the U.K.’s biggest commercial web. A C4 source predicted that the general downturn in ad sales in Britain would hit C4 in the second quarter of this year.
