MIAMI — Turner Network Television Latin America has extended its rights to air the Academy Awards ceremony in Mexico for two more years.
TNT, which aired the 2000 and 2001 ceremony live and in English, has extended its deal with Buena Vista Intl. for the 2002 and 2003 Oscars.
In addition to the broadcast of the ceremony, TNT has aired a pre-show hosted live from Los Angeles by TNT local presenter Paco Griffel.
The ceremony and the surrounding promotional activities in Mexico have attracted viewers and helped boost the channel’s ratings, TNT said.
TNT has 2.7 subscriber homes in Mexico, where it airs a Mexico-specific signal.
