Comic vet joins cast in show's 27th season
Live from New York, Amy Poehler has joined the cast of “Saturday Night Live.”Poehler is one of four new featured players on the long-running NBC latenight series, along with comic Dean Edwards ( Daily Variety, July 26). Poehler, a member of the New York-based improv/sketch troupe Upright Citizens Brigade, joins “SNL” as it enters its 27th season this fall. Besides the group’s eponymous Comedy Central series “Upright Citizens Brigade,” Poehler’s credits also include this summer’s indie theatrical comedy “Wet Hot American Summer.” She also appeared in “Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo” and has a part in the upcoming film “Martin & Orloff.” Poehler also guest stars on this season’s new Fox comedy “Undeclared.” She also occasionally appeared on “Late Night With Conan O’Brien” as sidekick Andy Richter’s mousy sister Stacy. “SNL” exec producer Lorne Michaels also produces “Late Night.” Poehler, who’s repped by UTA and 3 Arts, also honed her comedy chops at Chicago’s ImprovOlympic and Second City’s touring company.
