Pickup comes a week after skein debuts to Frog's best-ever numbers

It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s a full-season order for “Smallville!”

The WB has ordered the back-nine segs of its Warner Bros. Television-produced teen Superman drama “Smallville,” ensuring the skein will produce 22 episodes this season. Pickup comes a mere week after “Smallville” debuted to the Frog’s best-ever premiere ratings.

Over two weeks, “Smallville” has averaged 7.8 million viewers and a 4.3 rating/12 share with the Frog’s target demo of viewers 12-34.

New take on the Superman legend features Tom Welling as the teen of steel. Unlike previous incarnations, “Smallville” has what producers have called a “no tights/no flights” rule, which means Welling will not be seen in the traditional Superman costume and won’t take to the skies.

Alfred Gough and Miles Millar are the exec producers/showrunners of “Smallville.”
