NBC News tops in sweeps

No. 1 in overall viewers, households, adults 25-54

NBC News steamrolled its way through February sweeps, with the Peacock’s “Nightly News” and “Meet the Press” beating the competish by virtually all measures.

“Nightly” wrapped the sweeps period on top in overall viewers (11.01 million), households (8.1 rating/16 share) and in adults 25-54 (3.6 rating). February marked the ninth consecutive sweeps period in which the Tom Brokaw-anchored newscast ranked first in total viewers and its 15th consecutive sweeps win (including one tie) in homes.

The Peter Jennings-toplined “World News” is second by all three measures, averaging 9.85 million viewers, a 7.5/15 in homes and a 3.3 rating with adults 25-54. Dan Rather’s “Evening News” finished sweeps in third, with an average of 9.31 million viewers, a 6.9/13 household rating and a 2.7 rating among adults 25-54.

Compared to last February’s sweeps, “Nightly News” dipped 2% in total viewership, while “World News” dropped 12% and “Evening News” increased by 3%. In household ratings, “Nightly News” was down 2%, while “Evening News” was flat and “World News” dropped 7%.

Meanwhile, “Meet the Press With Tim Russert” ranked first in overall viewers (4.17 million), households (3.4 rating/11 share) and in adults 25-54 (1.4 rating). CBS News’ “Face the Nation” averaged 3.07 million viewers, a 2.4/7 in homes and a 1.0 rating in adults 25-54, while ABC News’ “This Week” averaged 3.02 million viewers, a 2.5/7 in homes and a 1.0 rating in adults 25-54.
