MVS cuts back jobs, programs

Mexico City broadcaster to pinkslip 60

MEXICO CITY — Pay TV broadcaster MVS Communications is axing 60 staffers and making programming cuts.

The Mexico City company, which runs a panregional pay TV outfit and produces several associated channels, has revealed it is dropping television news bulletins “Mexico Confidencial” and “Esta Semana” (This Week) as well as one radio show. TV sports station MVS Deportes also will scale down its coverage.

“The slowdown in the economy has generated problems in the whole radio and TV industry,” said MVS exec Felipe Chao. “MVS is not immune from this and has seen it necessary to take these cuts.”
