Multimedia sales team to toot Claxson’s horn

Valero to o'see in-country sales directors; Varela tapped as VP marketing

MIAMI — Claxson Interactive Group has assembled the ad-sales team that will lead efforts to sell multimedia packages.

Claxson chief marketing officer Damaris Valero, a former senior VP of sales at Yupi Internet who joined co-parent Cisneros TV Group earlier this year, will oversee several new in-country sales directors as well as consultants and other staffers around the region. Claxson also named former El Sitio exec Mariano Varela as VP of corporate marketing.

Claxson was created out of the merger of Internet company El Sitio and a Cisneros Group-Hicks, Muse, Tate & Furst joint venture holding company. The Cisneros Group holds a 44.8% stake in Claxson; Hicks Muse, 35.2%.

Claxson’s portfolio includes the 12 Latin American pay TV channels of the former Cisneros TV Group, an 80% stake in Playboy TV Intl., broadcast TV and radio holdings in Chile and Internet and broadband assets.

Claxson aims to woo advertisers with multimedia possibilities and has skedded upfront presentations for today in New York and Thursday in Miami.
