‘Mercer’ maker declines honors

Salter Street Films is declining its nominations for the Gemini Awards, the Canuck equivalent of the Emmys, for satirical show “Rick Mercer’s Talking to Americans” following last week’s terrorist attacks on the U.S.

“This is not a time to be making light of the differences between two nations,” said Mercer, the show’s host, “but rather a time to offer our unconditional support to our neighbors, friends and relatives to the south.”

The program, which pokes fun at the ignorance of ordinary Americans about matters political, cultural and geographical in Canada, was nominated for its music and for Mercer’s performance.
