McBain’s beat to cover pilot for Global TV

Two-hour pilot based on author's series of novels

HOLLYWOOD — Crime novelist Ed McBain has agreed to write the two-hour pilot for Global Media TV’s drama “Ed McBain’s 87th Precinct,” based on a series of novels written by the author.

Global Media TV is a new production-distribution company set up by international TV vets Anthony Scotti and Catherine Malatesta. Company will make its debut at next week’s Mipcom TV trade show in Cannes.

Evan Hunter (Ed McBain is a pseudonym) will also serve as creative consultant on the drama series and may write select future episodes.

The two-hour pilot will be based on McBain’s novel “Sadie When She Died.”

“As we prepare to formally unveil Global Media TV at Mipcom, Evan’s involvement will make this project a highly attractive program to buyers and their viewers,” Malatesta said.

Over the past 30 years, McBain has published 52 novels under the 87th Precinct franchise.
