‘Martians’ land on U

Aliens may be headed to theaters

The 26 half-hour episodes of the animated “Butt-Ugly Martians” have yet to make their U.S. debut on Nickelodeon, but Universal Studios has locked up a deal with the producers for the rights to “Butt-Ugly”-based consumer products, worldwide homevideo and theme-park rides.

If the series becomes a hit on Nickelodeon early next year, Universal would also get the right to finance the production of more episodes and even trigger a theatrical cartoon based on the characters.

“Butt-Ugly” is a lampoon of futuristic sci-fi movies, running in England, Canada, Germany and other foreign markets. The producers are Just Entertainment, Mike Young Prods. and DCDC in Hong Kong.
