Move over, Count Chocula: Homer Simpson is moving in on your territory.
Kellogg’s and Fox Licensing & Merchandising are preparing to launch two new cereal brands tied to Fox’s long-running toon hit “The Simpsons.” Later this month, shoppers will be able to choose between Homer’s Cinnamon Donut Cereal and Bart Simpson Peanut Butter Chocolate Crunch.
Both will come in 12 oz.-13 oz. packages and retail for about $2.49 a box. No word on whether Kellogg’s plans to throw in any “Simpsons” toys, but the packaging will feature plenty of show-related trivia.
Kellogg’s is no stranger to the toon-breakfast food tie-in biz. Company last week clinched a deal with Disney (Daily Variety, Sept. 6), and earlier this year released a “Powerpuff Girls” cereal that fizzes in the mouths of eaters, much like Pop Rocks.
For now, Kellogg’s is calling the “Simpsons” cereals “limited edition.” If there’s strong consumer response, however, it’s possible Homer and Bart could become regular fixtures in the cereal aisle.
