Inside Move: Eye touts big changes for ‘Big Brother’ redux

Revamped show has players voting each other out

CBS is making big changes to “Big Brother.”

Eye execs are mum about details, but the net’s Web site Monday started hyping a new edition of the reality skein that promises a total revamp of the reality-based game. Biggest change seems to be that players will be voted out by each other — a la “Survivor”– rather than by the general public.

“The houseguests will now play by new rules and face new challenges,” the site says. “Now, ‘Big Brother’ is an exciting, cutthroat, dramatic competition that will require players to use brain, brawn and charm to win.

“One by one, each of the houseguests will be eliminated as the group votes them out.”

Web site promo is tied to the official start of casting on the series, which is expected to return this summer (though a WGA or SAG strike could push the show back to fall).

Eye will announce today that it’s accepting applications through April 20, and that Oscar- and Emmy-winning producer Arnold Shapiro has been signed as showrunner (Daily Variety, Feb. 21). Allison Grodner is co-exec producer.

“Big Brother” will be produced by Arnold Shapiro Prods. in association with Endemol Entertainment. Last summer’s version of the Endemol format produced respectable, but unspectacular, Nielsen ratings.
