Despite a much-hyped relaunch, CNN Headline News saw primetime ratings dip on its first day with its new format.
In primetime Monday, the cable news net averaged 109,000 households and 56,000 adults 25-54 –a drop of 25% in both households and in the key ad-friendly demo compared to the net’s July average.
Along with a set change and new graphics for Headline News, former “NYPD Blue” star Andrea Thompson made her debut as an anchor Monday.
“We put our prime anchor team on from 6-9 p.m. We consider that Headline News’ primetime,” said a CNN spokeswoman, who noted the household ratings in that period compared to last August were up 18% and there was a 26% increase among adults 25-54.
For total day, Headline News averaged 136,000 households and 63,000 adults 25-54, up 11% in households but down 5% in adults 25-54 compared to last August’s average.
