John D. Maatta has been upped to exec VP and general counsel of the WB Network.
Maatta, the first employee hired by the WB back in 1994, will continue to be involved in a broad range of business activities at the web, including regulatory and governmental issues. He’ll also serve as an advisor to other Frog execs.
“John Maatta’s contributions to the startup of this network are too numerous to cite,” said Jamie Kellner, chairman and CEO of Turner Broadcasting Systems and head of the WB. “What is consistent is a creative business mind coupled with the skills of a fine lawyer.”
Maatta said he is “grateful” to work for a “very unique and fantastic company.”
“Once in a while, the stars align, and a business is created where very smart and hard-working people get together and work in an extremely creative and positive environment,” he said. “Jamie has created such a place at the WB.”
Before joining the WB, Maatta worked at Warner Bros. Television and Lorimar Telepictures Corp. as a legal counsel and ultimately VP and senior attorney.
