PARIS — Cable auds tipped over 3 million households at the end of 2000, repping a 7.3% increase in subscribers from last year, according to the latest figures published by cable and multimedia association Avicam.
New services are behind the majority of the increase. Digital television has seen a 33% rise in subs to 500,000, and high-speed Internet flew up 140% to 121,000. Cable telephone services are slowing, starting off with 32,460 subscribers.
Coming out tops is operator Noos, part of the Suez Lyonnaise group, with 803,400 subs. Second is France Telecom Cable with 793,300, followed by NC Numericable with 688,260.
