Sub gains help cabler's annual revs jump $10 mil

NEW YORK — The Food Network has been digesting new subscribers at a substantial rate, adding a robust 9.3 million over the last nine months to pass the 60 million milestone.

The subscriber increases have added $10 million to Food Network’s annual revenues from cable operators — from $47.4 million in 2000 to a projected $58.4 million in 2001, according to Paul Kagan Associates.

Recent gains have come from Cox Communications (565,000 subs in Virginia cable systems), Comcast (197,000, also in Virginia), Adelphia (100,000 in Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Insight Communications (80,000 in Lexington, Ky.).
