Call it the repeat factor: CBS has skedded an encore showing of the premiere of its new reality skein “The Amazing Race.”
Eye will repeat Wednesday’s premiere seg Sunday at 8 p.m., immediately following “60 Minutes.” Move has been in the works for several weeks, but CBS declined to confirm the sked change until Wednesday night, following the East Coast broadcast of “Race.”
CBS said the encore was a one-time only strategy.
It’s not unusual for nets to double-pump the premiere segs of key fall shows, particularly those like “Race” with favorable critical notices. In this case, however, the move was partly a reaction to the fact that NBC execs opted to counterprogram “Race’s” preem with an original episode of Peacock shock reality skein “Fear Factor.”
By putting “Race” on again Sunday, CBS hopes to expose the skein to a new set of eyeballs, while also giving viewers who opted to watch “Fear Factor” a chance to get into “Race.”
NBC is currently planning a “Weakest Link” repeat Sunday at 8 p.m., though Peacock insiders said there’s now a chance the net will sub a repeat “Fear Factor” in the slot.
