Turturro hopes for drama with 'lighter tone'
HOLLYWOOD — Thesp Nick Turturro (“NYPD Blue”) has inked a one-year holding deal with CBS.
Eye will develop a series for Turturro or place him in one of its existing pilot contenders for the 2002-03 season. Turturro said he’s looking to do a drama project for the network — “Something with a lighter tone, hopefully,” he said.
Turturro developed a pilot with CBS last year that didn’t land a spot on the fall sked.
“They’ve been good to me at CBS,” Turturro said. “They know what I’m about, and I think we’re going to get a home run with whatever we end up doing.”
Thesp co-stars with brother John Turturro in the upcoming TNT pic “Monday Night Mayhem,” which details the Howard Cosell era of ABC’s “Monday Night Football.”
Turturro spent seven seasons on “NYPD Blue” as Det. James Martinez, snagging an Emmy nom for best supporting actor. His feature credits include “Malcolm X,” “Jungle Fever” and “Federal Hill.”
Deal was brokered by Turturro’s reps at UTA and Union.
