Ericksen tops b’caster org

DR exec named as new director of TV

LONDON — The European Broadcasting Union has named Bjorn Ericksen, head of TV at Danish pubcaster DR, its new director of TV.

Appointment will be announced at the EBU’s headquarters in Geneva today.

The EBU, the largest professional organization of broadcasters in the world, is responsible for negotiating major sports rights on behalf of European pubcasters, program exchanges and negotiating co-production deals.

Ericksen is highly regarded within DR as an energetic leader. “He is likely to make the EBU a more active player. Bjorn is full of energy and has lots of ideas for raising the EBU’s profile,” said a well-placed source.

The EBU has 70 full members in 51 European countries, plus 47 affiliates in 29 countries including the U.S. and Canada. Phillippe Jacot is acting head of TV.
