MILAN — Giovanni Modina, head of programming at Mediaset’s three TV channels, soon will be appointed director of Canale 5, the flagship channel of Silvio Berlusconi’s TV group, according to several sources inside Mediaset.
Modina said “it is too soon to talk about” his appointment. But Maurizio Costanzo, president of Mediaset parent Mediatrade, said Modina “was somebody who will be talked about very much and soon,” clearly hinting at his nomination to top Canale 5.
Giorgio Gori, the successful director of Canale 5, is expected to leave Mediaset in the next few weeks, either to set up his own production company or to join the Pearson-Bertelsmann group as a TV producer.
The relationship between Gori and Berlusconi’s son Pier Silvio has been deteriorating in recent months, since the latter took a leading role in his father’s company and placed his allies in top positions.
