C5 yanks Springer’s ‘Greed’

Quizzer 'too derivative' of 'Millionaire,' sez director of programs

LONDON — The Jerry Springer-hosted quizzer “Greed” has been canceled by Channel 5.

Kevin Lygo, the channel’s new director of programs is said to have considered “Greed” too derivative of ITV’s “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire” and the BBC’s “The Weakest Link” and didn’t commission a second run of the show.

“Greed” garnered a 6% share over the summer, slightly higher than C5’s average.

Dropping the program could impact Springer’s larger deal with the channel, which includes his yakker “Late Night With Jerry Springer.”
