In what is likely to be the first of a string of new alliances, Web service America Online and AOL Time Warner syndie division Telepictures have joined forces to add a fresh seg and personality to newsmag “Extra.”
AOL’s online adviser Regina Lewis, whose analysis was featured on CBS’ “Big Brother,” is joining “Extra” as the series’ Internet commentator.
She will report on results of the series’ new interactive topical consumer polling segment involving AOL’s 28 million members and “Extra” viewers. The polls will cover a range of topics from pop culture to politics.
“It is the beginning of our process of figuring out how to marry the reach of television with the personalization of AOL,” said Jim Paratore, prexy of Telepictures Prods., which produces “Extra” under the Telepictures banner.
“Working with ‘Extra’ highlights the terrific way in which the convergence of television and the interactive medium can create a better and more enjoyable experience for the consumer,” added Joe Redling, AOL’s prexy of brand marketing.
