TORONTO — Alliance Atlantis has begun shooting “Crossed Over,” a two-hour event movie for CBS based on Beverly Lowry’s autobiographical novel “Crossed Over: A Murder/A Memoir.”
The pic, which stars Diane Keaton, Maury Chaykin and Jennifer Jason Leigh, is shooting in Toronto until June 1.
The story follows Lowry (Keaton) as she struggles to come to terms with the death of her teenage son in a hit-and-run accident.
Directed by Bobby Roth (“A Holiday Romance”), the film is exec produced by AAC’s Peter Sussman and Ed Gernon (“Life With Judy Garland: Me and My Shadows”), along with Paula Weinstein (“The Perfect Storm”). Keaton will serve as co-exec producer.
AAC is shooting five TV movies and one miniseries in Canada.
“We had two other films that were ready to go around this same time, but we decided to stall because it was a little too overwhelming,” said AAC Entertainment prexy Sussman, who credits the success of its mini “Joan of Arc” and concerns about a possible actors strike for the brisk business. All of the projects are skedded to wrap by the end of June in case of a strike.
